bars, boys, and balls

Last night I started off with this gigantic drink that Little One made me. I felt like a was on Spring Break. Don’t worry, I didn’t lose my top or find myself naked in a hotel swimming pool with 20 girls. That was so 2004.

We met some friends at Rio Grande for birthday crackeritas (my favorite!). And then off to High Bar for more drinks.

Then we went to XXI Bar to meet more friends. The bar was super packed and everyone was cheering. What is this so called basketball that’s got everyone screaming at the TV screen? And why do I have a donut around me?

It was such a fun night but I got in a taxi and went home before I started displaying spring break behavior. I woke up too late and too tired to go to a bar to watch the USA World Cup match so I watched it at home on the couch. What a terrible call by the ref! USA totally got robbed but what a great game! Little One came over to lay out during the sunny afternoon and then I came back inside to watch the England game. What a snoozer! I fell asleep after the half. Now I’m sitting at home watching the subway series. When did I become such a sport fan? I’ll be completely sported out by August but does watching hot men running around, swinging, and kicking at balls ever get old?

nonstop

I’ve had such a random weekend. I know I use that word a lot to describe my nights but I guess I end up doing a lot of spur of the moment, random things. I was working on Wednesday and I was in a bit of a sour mood because I had contacted The Boy and hadn’t heard back from him. Will I ever stop making dumb choices? I met 2 guys from San Francisco but was quite rude due to my mood and my hatred for all men (ha, dramatic aren’t I?). Anyway, they turned out to be loads of fun and I shared my stories of the terrible time I had when I last visited SF. I ended up drinking with them for 8 hours and playing ping pong and shuffle board at a bar on Christopher and Broadway (can’t remember the name).

Friday night, I went to Pianos with my roommate and had a blast dancing with her girlfriends.

I’ve never had a bad time at Pianos. I could do without the guys who lurk around behind you on the dance floor and wait for the moment that you’re not paying attention to try to slip an arm around your waist. Ew. The SF guys were around the corner at Fat Baby so I stopped by there with my roommate. I’m in trouble whenever there’s Grey Goose bottle service. I don’t have limits! But I did have to work early the following day so I pried my claws off my glass and feet off the dance floor and headed home. (Not without an argument with TA first. Do I even have the energy to talk about him anymore?)

(You know it’s a fun night when you wake up and your inner wrist looks like this).

Saturday morning, after a 4 hour nap, I worked a Soccer Without Borders event (what a great cause!) for the USA v England World Cup game. A room full of hot men drinking for charity. Is that my heaven or what?  I was divided for the game but I felt my loyalties were with England. Yes, I got a lot of abuse for this. What a sad outcome. A tie is a loss for me. I just wanted to give Robert Green a hug.

I got home at 8PM and wanted to squeeze in a nap but my roommates invited me out to the bohemian beer garden in Astoria. I have gotten a lot of flack for living in Astoria for 8 months and never having been there so I couldn’t turn down the invite. It was a gorgeous night and would you believe I had TWO beers! We stopped by Aftons on our way home and of course, I’m such a talker, ended up getting into a 2 hour conversation with 2 random guys. I finally went home after I think one guy gave the other guy the “oh my god get me out of here” signal. haha. I was so exhausted I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow.

I could barely get out of bed on Sunday. I watched some more World Cup (next time, Australia) and ate and napped.

World Cup, World Cup! It would be porn for women if they played without their shirts. Mmm. (Annie Lebowitz images via Vanity Fair).

My roommates got me out of bed with pizza and we watched a marathon of True Blood. (I still think the show is super weird but boxed sets are so addicting). What an awesome weekend.

so many birthdays!

I am still trying to recover from my fun filled weekend. Friday was another beautiful day so I had my girlfriends come over and sunbathe on my rooftop. Later that evening I had my friend, Whitney’s, surprise birthday party at 675 bar in the Meatpacking district. She had fried cheesecake for dessert. (It was amazing).

I was trying to drink water between each drink and leave by midnight because I had to be up early the next day. This did not happen.

I woke up the next morning with very little sleep and was dragging through my day. At 6 PM I took the path train to Hoboken to catch a ride to the shore for my best friend, Care Bear’s, birthday celebration. (I have a lot of Taurus friends). I was only in Hoboken for 15 minutes and was so glad I don’t live there anymore.

We went to our favorite martini bar and had quite a lot of laughs (and martinis!) over the night. I was quite drunk so, sadly, I didn’t take many pictures. After the bar closed, naturally, we went for late night snacks. I got the cheesesteak sliders. Delicious!

Typical Kate got ketchup all over her boots. haha.

And typical Nina drunk face.

Sunday morning I had to wake up way early to catch a train back to NYC to make it in time for a Mets game. I was slightly bitter about this since I wanted to enjoy the afternoon with my girlfriends. I was tired, hungover, hadn’t showered, and didn’t have time to change my clothes. And it was a super chilly, windy afternoon. But aside from that it was a really exciting game. I haven’t seen the Mets play (I’m a Yankee fan) since the subway series in 2000 and this was my first time in the new Citi Field stadium.

I went with a guy I met on my flight to LA…but I’m not gonna dish on that just yet.

I’m so glad to have the day off from drinking today. Time to get back to being a productive citizen (and back on my diet)…

perfect sunny weekend

My first weekend in May was a great start to the month. I spent Friday afternoon reading on my roofdeck and met Bionic Woman for a Greg Holden show in LES later that night. BW has been on a quest to broaden my limited music knowledge. I’m definitely a new fan of Greg Holden. I was sold once I saw his hair and heard his British accent. done.

I met Little One for an early evening drink on Saturday but early got very late after a few rounds of drinks.

Sunday was very warm (and I was a bit hungover) but I didn’t want to waste a beautiful day indoors so I sat out on my roof deck again with a book (The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath) and a spray bottle of water to keep me cool. The snow, rain, and wind of the winter has made our roof look like a dump site of trash and debris so I spent an hour sweeping, cleaning, and setting up the deck furniture. I must have looked like a desperate housewife doing yard work in a bikini and sun hat.

After I was done on the roof I decided to take a bike ride through Queens down by Astoria park and along the water. It was so relaxing. I stopped at the Hell’s Gate bridge to take a photo. I love this view for some reason. The pictures do not do justice to the blue skies and the view.

I rewarded my hard work with a bottle of champagne and a cheese plate with Elfin at The Clerkenwell in LES. (The French waitress is so sweet there). Tim and Little One met up with us and we had two more bottles of wine and tapas at Macondo. The decor of this place is so cute and ceviche might be my new favorite food. (Their salmon ceviche was to die for!)

At one point I looked up from our yummy plates and saw that we were all updating our facebook statuses at the same time. We’re so cool!

The bathroom at Macondo is painted with chalkboard paint so I left our mark.

I heart sunny weekends with beautiful friends!

enjoy the sunny weekend!

Amore, it’s sunny and 79 degrees here in NYC today and I was planning on going for a bike ride this morning. But I woke up with a bit of a hangover. I know I said I was going to try to drink less- but it was free so I am saving like I said I would! : )

I decided to take in this beautiful day from my roof top. I’m wearing a big floppy hat because I’m vowing to keep my face out of the sun this summer. I ain’t getting any younger, you know?

I’m so proud of this yummy little lunch that I made. Tuna salad with mesclun greens, avocado, and balsamic vinaigrette in a whole wheat wrap. Mmmm.

Oh and I made this shake of strawberries, orange juice, and mango sorbet for dessert.

This weekend I don’t have any plans aside from going to see Greg Holden with Bionic Woman tonight. Planless weekends are always the best because it leaves plenty of room for me to get into some trouble. hehe. If you’re in NYC I hope you’re enjoying this lovely weather! baci!
