weekend

Where does the time go? It’s Monday already? My Friday night was extremely exciting. I did my taxes (it’s kinda depressing how little I made last year), filled out paperwork for a new license and passport, ate some ice cream, and watched a TV with my roommate. I’m a rockstar.

After work on Saturday, I went to meet up with my boyfriend’s friends at McGee’s Pub. We tried to pick a location that was an easy compromise for everyone who was coming from Queens, Brooklyn, and Washington Heights and were able to settle on Midtown West. We didn’t even know it when we picked the bar but McGee’s this the NY bar that was the inpiration for McLaren’s Pub on the show, How I Met Your Mother. We thought that was pretty cool and had a fun time trying to figure out who was the Ted Mosby and the Barney out of the group.

I worked again on Sunday, watched some baseball, made a Taco Bell run for dinner, and laid in bed watching Californication. I’d say that’s a pretty good finish to a low-key weekend. (And I’ve gotten through Week 1 without a day off. 3 more to go!) What did you guys do?

williamsburg -> philly -> astoria

I think I’m going back to my old ways; surviving solely on 5 hour Energy and Coffee. OK, maybe things have changed- there used to be a lot more vodka in that mix. And I’ve had to upgrade from coffee to espresso.

This weekend, I went straight from work to dinner at Bozu, a Japanese tapas lounge, in Williamsburg. We had tako balls (filled with cooked octopus), pork belly, and the party bombs, which is a sushi presentation I have never seen before. Oh, and lots of sake. I would’ve been content staying there all night but we stopped by a friends birthday, a few doors down, at Trash Bar. I believe I drank a drink with the word “Poison” in the name, and I can’t remember much after that.

Saturday, after work, we drove to Philly to visit my best friend, Carebears, and her husband. (OK, they live in Norristown, PA, but since I can never remember the name, I always default to Philly). We were so tired from a long weekend and a late night that we were joking about getting to their apartment and asking if we could put on our pajamas and watch a movie. We didn’t want to be duds, and would’ve gone out, but luckily my friends were just as content sitting in their beautiful (spacious!) apartment and drinking wine. (Are we getting old?) We sat and talked for hours and then decided to put on Zack and Miri Make a Porno. I have such a hard time staying awake for movies so I knew I was going down. But not before a midnight snack- Carebear’s husband made us some (organic) mac n cheese before bed. Hey, I was on a mini holiday, right?

Sunday morning, I woke to our lovely hosts making us breakfast. The menu? Banana and nut pancakes, buttermilk biscuits with strawberry jam, piles of bacon, pineapple, and coffee. It was so indulgent and wonderful. I felt like I was at a bed and breakfast. After we ate, we got dressed, and decided to do a mini tour of Philly since I haven’t been in years. We walked along the water by the museum (I’m saying museum, singular, because I’m assuming there’s only one? Everyone kept saying, “Did you go to the museum?”) but it was quite windy and chilly so we didn’t linger on take too many pictures. We walked around the museum to the top of the “Rocky Steps” which was a little disappointing if you didn’t start from the bottom. I was like, “this is it?”  I thought it was better to see it from the bottom of the stairs. We have to admit that we weren’t interested in anything except pigging out on cheesesteaks (and getting out of the cold) so we went to Reading Terminal Market. There we got cheesesteaks (with cheese whiz) from Carmine’s and roasted pork sandwiches from DiNic’s. As usual, it was totally wonderful to consume, and absolutely painful, afterwards, when my stomach looked like I was a snake that swallowed a puppy.

We drove back to Astoria Sunday evening, got right back into our pajamas, watched some Law & Order, and went to bed, content and exhausted.

48 hours of Halloween

Last week I was feeling like a big loser because I didn’t have any Halloween plans. But then the invites started coming and I felt all was ok in the world again. With each invite I would’ve needed a different costume, from the Eyes Wide Shut party, Devils & Demons, Masquerade Ball…etc…so I narrowed it down to two.

Saturday I went as Cleopatra to the most amazing house party in midtown. It was the largest apartment I had ever seen in Manhattan, stocked with a full bar, snacks, and DJ. There were people dancing on the bars, windowsills, tabletops…It was like out of a movie…

(this was a photo before the party)

I was pretty hungover on Sunday, but come on, it’s Halloween! You HAVE to dress up. This time I wanted to be something more fun and comfy so I went as a Party Penguin. I think I may have developed an alter ego. Not to mention…I LOVE not having to wear pants!

Party Penguin and the Geico Gecko!

Romy came to visit and, of course, we headed back to karaoke.

She didn’t have a costume so I told her to put on her boyfriend’s clothes, draw a mustache on her face, and be a hipster boy. Done! She looked like a bit of a creeper but is it strange that I was kinda attracted to her?

It was such a wild weekend, I really wish everyday could be Halloween.

weekend

My weekend was pretty jam packed with fun. I had plans with Bionic (I haven’t seen her in so long!) but sadly she suddenly felt ill and had to cancel. I was sitting at the bar talking to a friend who said he had to go out to dinner with 3 married couples. I told him I knew how he felt since I’m also usually the odd number out at dinners. He was upset that his date had suddenly cancelled and I offered to join him invited myself to come along. Hey, dinner was at Wolfgang’s and I had never been. A totally last minute plan due to 2 cancellations, but the night turned out to be super fun. The steak dinner was absolutely delicious (his date was vegetarian so it would’ve just been a waste on her anyway) and we continued on after for a long night of drinking.

I was struggling to get through work on Saturday morning but had to jump on a train right after and head to Jersey for another night out with my girlfriends. Nothing a 2 hour nap on the train couldn’t fix. We met up at our favorite local martini bar to celebrate our friend, JWow’s, visit. I’m not sure if it was the company of high school friends, or if something else had gotten into us, but we were beyond immature the entire night. Sometimes it’s fantastic to behave like delinquent teenagers. After the bars closed we went on for drunk food (cheesesteak sliders mmmmm) and then belted out songs along with the radio during the drive home. I wish we were videotaped because it was the most atrocious performance. Ever. We ended the night by camping out in Carebear’s mom’s living room. Did I ever mention how much I love slumber parties?

The following morning we woke up and got breakfast together before they sent me off on the train. I swear, it doesn’t matter how much time goes in between seeing these girls, whenever I see them it just feels like, “Ah, this is home.” All is right in the world when I am with them.

getaway

I needed to get out of town so I’m headed to the beach today. Wish it were somewhere that required a passport…

Be back soon.
